UK mobile phone network Vodafone has introduced a new service for its customers, allowing them to pay for taxi fares in London via SMS.
Vodafone are branding hundreds of London taxi cabs with a Union Jack design, and the first of these are now on the streets. The branded cabs will feature charging points for mobile phones and will also allow Vodafone customers to pay for their taxi ride by sending a text message to a special number.
To pay the taxi fare by text message, Vodafone customers simply text the word Taxi followed by the taxi number and then the fare to pay to 31255. The fare is deducted from their Vodafone account. Customers need first to register for the service by calling 0845 680 3409.
Vodafone will also be branding the Heathrow Express trains in this campaign to show it is committed to London.
